Summative
Definition: Summative assessments are used after the end of the lesson or unit to evaluate the student's learning by comparing their work to a standard or benchmark. High stakes with high point value.

Final Project: Gives students a chance to take everything they learned from a unit and show case their work.
Diagnostic
Definition: Diagnostic assessments are pre-assessments used to determine students individual strengths, weaknesses, knowledge, and skills before instruction takes place. Can help teachers form lessons.
Pre-Test: Test given before a lesson is taught in order to see what the students already know as well as see what the misconceptions may be going into the lesson.
Teacher Questioning: Teacher asks questions to gather information about what the students already know as well as understand the students thinking.
Performance
Definition: Performance assessments require that students perform a task instead of answering multiple choice tests.
Portfolio: Have students evaluate their own work performance and collect work that shows their strengths and weaknesses.
Research Paper: Students are asked to read materials for meaning not for memorization and then put it together in a coherent paper to display their learning.
Formative
Definition: Formative assessments are used during the learning process to provide feedback that teachers can use to change instruction and students can use to improve their learning. Low stakes grades with little to no point value.

Think-Pair-Share: Think about the lesson or question. Pair up with a partner and talk about the lesson or question. Share with the class what you and your partner talked about.
Interim-Benchmark:
Definition: These assessments can be used by teachers to determine where a student is at in their learning progress as well as if they are on track to continue progressing.
Achieve: Reading articles and answering questions in order to test the students reading levels throughout the year.
MAP: Computerized test system to see students growth in Math taken at the beginning of the year, the middle of the year, and the end of the year.
