Characters
Garvey:Is a very serious person. He wants help but he is struggling. Garvey told Cole about his past life and how he struggled.
Mom: She acts like everything is okay when its not. And tries to cover up everything wrong with her family. Mom is changing by understanding more and actually trying to care for her son Cole.
Dad: He is a achoolic. He is also a abusive father to his son Cole. Dad has went to jail for less then a day because his lawyer got him out. Now he wants to take Cole away from his mom
Peter: He seems to be a innocent kid. And also very nice shy kid to everyone. Peter has tried to kill himself twice so Cole invited him to the circle of justice.
Cole: Is a very mean aggressive person to everyone. Cole changed by caring for the birds, trying to take responsibility and actually saying sorry to everyone that he hurt and blamed.
Similes
Similes: The waves, the shoreline, the trees, the bay, all existed like parts of a puzzle.
Lifting him like a rag
Cole pulse quickened as the island drifted into view
The flames pf the burning shelter rumble like a freight train and sucked at the air.
Watched the thick white smoke drifted upward like a twisted ribbon dissolving into the sky.
Plot
Exposition ( Beginning of the story) ,setting,character, what is happening? Beginning of the story Cole was a very bad kid and a bully to everyone that got in his way. The main charters are Cole,Garvey,Peter,Edwin,Mom,and the dad.
Rising Action: what got to him getting attacked: When Cole saw the spirit bear he threatened it to kill it so the bear got triggered and attacked him.
Climax: Cole got mauled by the bear he was flew around like he was a rag doll. Peter tried to stab the bears many times but it did not stop the bear from mauling him. He ripped his chest open, broke his arm,and broke his ribs.
Falling Action: events that happen after he got attacked: After Cole got attacked while he was laying there he realized that he is not to blame everyone. And that his life matters and he was scared to lose his life.
Resolution: At the end Peter tried to beat up Cole while they were at the pond. Cole did not try to fight back because he wanted to prove that he can control himself. They are a little closer than before but they are not that close yet.
Figurative Language

Hyperbole: "With each desperate grab, hundreds of tiny thistles pierced his."
Simile: "The flames of the burning shelter rumble like a freight sucked at the air. "
Personification: "He returned to shallow tentative breaths, drawings air past his lips if he were as if he were sipping from a straw."
Metaphor: As he coaxed the flames higher, his thoughts again focused on escape.
Idiom: "Stars glistened overhead like frozen fireworks."
