router
they enable data packets to be routed between the diffrent network for example to join a LAN to wide area network
it would typically have an internet cable plugged into it and serveral cables connecting to computers and other devices
the routers main job is to transmit internet and transmission protocols between two network to be connected together.
Hubs
are hardware devices that can have a number of devices or computer connected to them. its main task is to take any data packet ( a group of data being transmitted.) received at one of its ports and broadcast it to every computer in the network
each device or computer on a network has a media access control address that uniquely identifies it.
switches
are similliar to hub but are much more effecient than in the way that distribute data packets. as with hubs they connect a number of devices or computer together from a LAN.
unlike hubs the switch checks the data packet received and works to destination address and sends data to the appropriate computers only.
bridges
they are devices that copnnect one LAN to another LAN that uses the same protocol. They are often used to connect together different paits of a LAN so tHAT THEY CAN function as one LAN.
