Respiratory System
Lower Respiratory Tract
Bronchial Tree: contain millions of air sacs so the bronchial tree is a way of branching from the single trachea to these air sacs
Lungs: similar to a sponge. Right lung is made up of 3 lobes, and left lung has 2 lobes.
Trachea: cilia in the trachea move substances back towards the mouth in order to keep debris and bacteria out of the respiratory tract
-
Larynx: voice box; the process of speaking is by blowing air up from the lungs through the vocal cords.

Upper Respiratory Tract
Nose: epithelial cells in nose produce mucus. Foreign materials and bacteria stick to mucus and hairs, filtering the air before it gets further into our respiratory tract.
Pharynx: nasopharynx, oropharynx, laryngopharynx. Air and food pass through the pharynx. Air flow travels through the nose or mouth, entering the pharynx then travel to the lungs.
