Cardiovascular Sytem
Amarilis Ramos Period 2
Major Functions
Help transport nutrients
Removal of metabolic waste
Anatomy of the Heart:Chambers and Valves
Left Ventricle
Right Atrium
Mitral valve
Right Ventricle
Aortic Valve
Tricuspid valve-
Left Atrium
Layers of the heart
Epicardium-Visceral layer of serious pericardium
Pericardial cavity-second layer deep
Myocardium-inner -layer
Parental layer of serous-third layer in
Endocardium -outer layer of heart
Fibrous pericardium-deepest layer in heart
Blood Flow through the Heart and body
Systole-pumping the body
Right atrium gets oxygen from the body to pump into veins
Then right ventricle pumps oxygen to lungs
then it goes through aortic valve out through the entire human body
Diastole -filling in the body
Major arteries and veins in body
Pulmonary artery
Function:Transport oxygen blood away from heart
Pulmonary vein
Function:Helps carry blood from lung to left atrium
Inferior Vena Cava
Function:helps move blood flow to the top of body
Aorta
Helps to pump blood from left ventricle to right
Superior Vena Cava
Function:Deoxygenate blood from the systemic circulation
structural and functional differences of blood vessel types:
Veins-Blood vessels that help return blood to heart
Capillaries -very small vessels in the body that protect body
Arteries-The blood vessels thats job is to take blood away from heart
Cardiac cycle ECG
Ventricular filling-second stage
Atrial Contractions-atrial systole begins
Isovolumic relaxation -start of cycle
Isovolumic contraction -Artial Systole ends
Electrocardiography-when heart activity is calculated over a period of time using electrodes
Disorders of Cardiovascular System:
Angina pectorals-Sharp pain in arm that causes pressure
Pulmonary congestion-left side fails and blood stops
Myocardial infection-heart attack that causes blockage of coronary artery
Fibrillation-heart cannot work and can't pump correctly
