Flipped Learning Model Increases Student Engagement and Performance Byron High School, Byron, Minnesota Foundations of Flipped Learning
Challenge
-
Since there was no money, they wrote their own curriculum
According to Troy Faulkner, math dept. chair, a curriculum change was needed
One of the teachers came across work by Jonathan Bergmann and Aaron Sams. This lead the way to flipped learning
Implementation
-
"With flipped learning, students were actively doing math rather than passively watching me do math on the interactive whiteboard."
After success and improvements in student engagement and performance, Faulkner switched to an entirely flipped learning model

Thoughts

Fortunately, they had great success and saw positive results
The more people you have on board with changes, the easier it will be to implement

I would be on board with piloting this type of learning. I would love the extra one-on-one time with students to actually get the help that they need. Some of my students would benefit greatly from flipped learning.
