ODS 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production

The population is increasing, and so the production and consumption, but the resources are not.

With the population growing, the demand of production also grows, so imagine the amount of resources that we spend to produce jeans and coke for all.

Think abou it: it takes 3.781 litres of water to make one pair of jeans. The process equates to around 33,4 kilogrammes of carbon eqivalent emitted, like driving 111 kilometres or watching 246 hours of TV on a big screen

We need 36 litres of water to make one bottle of Coke ( 600 ml )

Means to help:

Recycle

Reuse: We can donate what no longer is useful for us or give to someone in the family.

Now imagine how many cars there are in our world, each person having at least one.

We need the resources, but we need to be "sustainable"

Waste (Of water, energy, of money, of food...)

"Take - Make - dispose" model of society

Each year above one third of food produced - equivalent to 1.3 billion tonnes worth around $1 trillion - ends up rotting in the bins of consumers and retailers, or spoilling due to poor transportation and harvesting practices, something that businesses need to address.

"We only have one planet. We have nowhere else to go, If we use our creative powers properly we don't need anywhere else. If we take care of it, and each other, everything we need is right here."
Sir Ken Robinson

What is sustainable consumption and production?

It is the use of products and services that have a minimal impact on the environment.

What can we do to help?

Be sustainable

Don't spend too much time at the shower.

Don't leave the faucet open as soon as we brush our teeth.

turn off the lights and electronic devices
