Climate Change Inquiry Questions
What can young people in Unley do to solve the issue?
Growing green plants, vegetables or fruits. The plants and trees will help to remove the greenhouse gas CO2 from the air.
Use the new compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) instead of old incandescent light bulbs, the new compact fluorescent light which is only take 25% as much electricity to give the same light
Turn off lights, TVs, computers, when you do not need them.
Turn up the thermostat on the air conditioning when it's hot. Use fans if you're still hot which use much less power.
Turn down the thermostat on the heating when it's cold. It is better to wear sweaters, blankets, and socks.

Address problems
"It's OK to live irresponsibly, my family, my friends and my community do it too" the young are easily influenced by bandwagon effect
Lacking or faded motivation and inspiration over time.
Campaigns, events or talk-shows on climate change are too 'serious' and theoretical, young people need a more active and enjoying approach.
Little opportunity for students to really make big change as a community in their school.
In Adelaide, about 300 students rallied at South Australia's Parliament House, forcing police to block off a lane of traffic on North Terrace as another 200 onlookers spilled onto the road.
The brief introduction to climate change, what are the effects of climate change
Climate change refers to the change in the average long-term weather pattern of a region over a long period of time, usually decades or more.
Example: changes in wind type, average temperature or rainfall. These changes can affect a region, many regions, or the entire planet.
Caused by changes in the total energy in the Earth's atmosphere, spreading mainly through ocean currents and wind and weather patterns that affect the climate of different regions.
Global climate change has already had observable effects on the environment:
Glaciers have shrunk, ice on rivers and lakes is breaking up earlier, plant and animal ranges have shifted and trees are flowering sooner.
Causes of climate change
Humans activities
Creating greenhouse gases emissions
Cutting down forests
Natural processes
Changes in the sun's intensity
Volcanic eruptions
Variations in Earth's orbit
How can we motivate young people to take actions? (focus: school environment)
Create interactive programs in schools to educate young people about how to save energy and the effects on the environment if they don't
Create a point system where whichever school saves the most water and energy gets a reward at the end of the year
Have a prize for whichever school or group comes up with the most creative way to save water or energy
Decorate bins with beautiful drawings and meaningful sayings relating to climate change.
