Research and Assessment
3 Big Ideas
The purpose of assessment is to improve student learning. If we are not seeing improvements, it may be due to the feedback that we are giving, the types of assessments we are preparing, our our interpretation of data.
Using the Evaluation Process: Starts by planning the evidence you will use to evaluate students, evidence must then be interpreted using professional judgement and assigned a value. Feedback is then provided on the evaluation
One of the big ideas in this course was the importance of continually checking in with your students. We focused on filling our "Bento Boxes" each week with a variety of assessment tools, typically formative assessment. Things such as fist to five, traffic lights, thumbs up thumbs down

Messages in, Messages Out
-
Students are constantly sending you messages either directly telling you, or through their behaviour, written assessments etc. As a teacher, we are also constantly sending verbal and non-verbal feedback to our students

Using deliberate, methodical, accurate methods to obtain data that can be used to solve problems
Can be done by teachers in their own classroom. This would be applied research. Theoretical research is another type of educational research but might not be as accessible for teachers.
