MONSTERS INC & 7 HABITS …
MONSTERS INC & 7
HABITS By: Amina and Manel
4.THINK WIN-WIN
The main obstacle that destroyed Mike and Sulleys idea of a win-win was Boo. They realized that making kids cry was not something they considered as a win.
When Mike returned to tell Sulley that he shouldn't have left him alone and that their friendship is worth more than their fight, they both realized that they work better together. Mike apologizing help this turn into a win-win situation.
Mikes WIN-WIN idea is to keep Sulley as the best scarer, but also help the business and energy grow by working hard.
6. SYNERGIZE
When Sulley needs to be re-energized he turns back to the memories he had with Boo.He looks at the picture she drew of him and also the piece of her door that he kept.
1.PROACTIVE
This type of behaviour is not worth it because it will not get him anywhere. Life is as you want to see it. you can either always focus on the negative things you can't control in situations or you can acknowledge the positive aspects. Being a reactive person is not effective behaviour.
3.Mike clearly feels like he has something to prove when it comes to Randall and his behaviour becomes "reactive".
2.The presence of Randall changes Mike, a happy and positive monster, into a moody one. This happens after Randall scares him.
How does he react? He makes fun of Randall and gets into many arguments which lead him to always be angry. This makes him reactive. I think Mike should have just ignored him and worried about himself.
Expected reaction after watching the commercial: I expected him to be disappointed and annoyed.
How Mike responds: When he saw himself in the commercial, he was thrilled at first at the fact that he was on tv but soon his reaction changes as he realized he was covered with the Monsters INC logo.
Prior to beginning the work day, Sulley does quite a few things that make him proactive including:
-Insisting on walking to work instead of using Mike's car to save energy.
-Waking up with a lot of energy and starting the morning off right by doing exercises to get in shape. -Being humble after Tony tells him he is going to obtain the scare record by simply saying that he just wants to obtain enough scares to continue living.
Randall was showing examples of defective actions of habit #1 as he was always blaming everything on his partner Fungus. He is always angry and thinks that whenever something goes wrong, it is someone else's fault, and does wrong actions such as cheating although he knew they were wrong.
9.At the end of the movie, Mike's REAL attitude in life is shown to us as proactive as he starts to think about his problems and sees the wrong in his actions then apologizes for what he does wrong. An example of this is when he apologizes to Sulley after they had been in the Himalayas. He also started to make children laugh although his first few jobs usually failed to make them laugh, he worked harder to reach his goal. Lastly, when the magazines came out in the end of the movie, although his face turned out to be covered by the barcode, he was still super happy as he made it in a magazine cover. This shows progress as he acts much more proactive compared to at the start of the movie.
During the "kid-tastrophe" Mike and Sulley were not being proactive as although they knew that having a human girl in their world could be dangerous for all the monsters around them, they escaped and were only thinking about themselves and how they were going to get through it without losing their jobs.
Sulley changed from being proactive to reactive when he saw how boo reacted after seeing him scare other kids in the scare simulator. Sulley started to act careless when it came to his job and made Boo his priority. He was taking a reactive position when he left Mike alone in the Himalayas when he had a goal to save Boo despite all the thing that Mike had done for him.
2. BEING WITH END IN MIND
This goal changes once we meet the character Boo. Mike and Sulley start to pay more attention to trying to get Boo back home rather than their jobs.
At the beginning of the movie, Mike and Sulley's main goal is to succeed at their job and remain as the top scarers.
Top Scarer: LONG Term
Get boo the sleep: SHORT Term
Escape restaurant: SHORT Term
Get Sulley in Shape: LONG Term
Productivity of Monsters INC Company: LONG Term
3. PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST
After the first night, Sulley's initial priority was to keep his job and return Boo to her home. To show this, he dresses Boo as a monster so that she can blend in and he asks for Mike's help. With their team work, they were able to safely return the little girl to her room.
When Sully skis down the mountain, his main priority becomes to find Boo and apologize to her for scaring her earlier. His decision is proactive as he took the time to reflect on his actions and fixed them by deciding that he did not want to scare children anymore as he saw it as a wrong action.
5.SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD
1.When Sulley scares for practice, he was able to see Boo's reaction in the corner of the screen when he watched it back which caused him to understand how she feels.
Sulley developed a connection with Boo throughout the timespan that they had been together in. They had gone through a lot and having to return her to her home was an emotional moment for him.
7.SHARPEN THE SAW
Mike helped Sulley through all of his problems and tries to make him the happiest he can be. Mike gave Sulley a piece of Boos door for him to always keep her in his memories. Mike constantly shows Sulley how much their friendship means to him.
The heart is one of the most important aspects of sharpening the saw because it also needs to be taken care of. Building relationships is an example of taking care of your heart. We see this in the film between Mike and Sulley and also Sulley and Boo.
