Claudia Cabatuan

Act 1: Childhood

Parents

Growing up

Claudia is the child of Portia who's a diwata that dreamt and chose to live alongside Filipinos. Her mother never liked to live in fear or hiding, so her fascination to the Filipinos' seemingly free lifestyle encouraged her to turn her back away from her diwata life.

Claudia's father, Cole, spent most his life in the military by the choice of his father. But even though he grew from a strict family, he was actually fun and easy-going.

Cole grew infatuated with Portia when they met during the time he as home from military camp. Though Portia wasn't seeking for love, she eventually fell for Cole's continuous efforts to charm her.

Even though her father was away most of the time, the two still felt very connected through the little time they spend whenever her father's back from camp. Her love for nature came from her mother as she taught her how to plant and care for animals.

Because of her mother's beauty, the other mothers tend to avoid her because of jealousy. And so Claudia still found it hard to connect with the other kids as their parents tend to stray them away from her. In general, this caused her to spend most of her time with her mom.

Having a lot of time alone, Claudia grew connected to arts and crafts. Her mother gave her a small cutter as a gift, which she creatively turned into a necklace.

Arc 2: Losing her mother.

As time passes, people started to get sketchy about her mother's seemingly timeless aging. People started spreading rumors that she was rich enough to use expensive products to keep her beautiful and young. Some even saying she had powers. No one ever knew the real reason.

Claudia also got curious about this, but was very reluctant to ask. Of course her mother notices, and decided to explain to her as she thought she was old enough to know.

Because of the rumors that she was rich, greedy people got into the house at night to rob them. The commotion woke Claudia up. She went down to check-- causing the robbers to panic and launch at her.

Her mother saves Claudia, causing her to get stabbed instead of her daughter.

Arc 3: Effects of the loss

Present

Claudia continues to blame herself for the death of her mother. Having no one else there except his father, she never had peace of mind.

The death of her mother affected his father as well. Wanting to protect Claudia led him to be strict and teach her self-defense. He thought strict and controlling parenting would be the best. He grew cold and distant.

Claudia asked her father why he never told her about mom being a diwata. What she didn't know is her mother never told his father. Cole's clouded mind started to feel betrayed which in turn clouded his love for Portia.

Cole gets re-married to Amanita. He thought it would be good for Claudia to have a mother figure. His still confused mind didn't realize Amanita's bad intentions.

Amanita was only after the rumored riches of the family. After realizing she wont be getting anything, she stopped being a mother to Claudia and continued to treat her like trash.

Claudia no longer feels safe in the house, and in addition she also feels responsible for the bad decisions her father makes.

She continues to blame herself for everything. The voices in her head just continues to get louder, and so she occupies herself with anything like; reading, planting, training, etc.

With her mom being a diwata, she gained the ability to grow any plant and befriend any animal. She remains oblivious to this ability.

She continues to be reserved and keeps everything to herself. She doesn't talk about her life but still listens to others stories as this keeps her mind off of things.
