The Cardiovascular System P.5 Yaritza Perez
Major functions of Cardiovascular System
Transport of
nutrients
to cells through out the body and remove metabolic waste
Transport of
oxygen
to cells through out the body and remove metabolic waste
Transport of
hormones
to cells through out the body and remove of metabolic waste

Veins & Arteries
Pulmonary Veins
Pulmonary artery
Inferior/ Superior Vena Cava
Heart Flow
right atrium ( deoxygenated blood)-> tricuspid valve-> pulmonic valve-> out from the pulmonary artery-> in from the pulmonary veins (oxygenated blood)-> left atrium-> mital valve-> aortic valve-> out from the aorta to the body
Major arteries & Veins of the body
arch of aorta
pulmonary artery
inferior vena cava
pulmonary vein
renal artery
superior mesenteric artery
Blood Vessels
arteries- arterioles move away from the heart
capillaries-where tax exchange takes place
veins- venules move towards the heart
Cardiac Cycle
each cycle is about 0.8 sec is subdivided into sytole & diastole
stroke volume- volume of blood ejected from 1 ventricle with each beat
cardiac volume- amount of blood that one ventricle can pump each min
EGC- specialized conduction system structure generates & transmit the electrical impulses that results in contraction of the heart
Disorders- heart attacks, coronary artery disease( narrowing of arteries, abnormal heart rhythms, heart failure.
