Expansion - Concrete expansion joints are used to separate slabs and concrete from other parts of the structure. Expansion joints allow independent movement between adjoining structural members minimizing cracking when such movements are restrained. It allows for thermal expansion and contraction without inducing stress into the system.
AS3600 - Specifies minimum requirements for the design and construction of concrete building structures and members that contain reinforcing steel or tendons, or both.
Controlled joint - Contraction/control joints are placed in concrete slabs to control random cracking.
Connolly joint - Connolly Key Joints are an expansion joint that provides a durable and rigid straight line that can be utilised for expansion joint forming in either end of pour or continuous pour situations
Concrete cancer - Concrete cancer is caused when the steel reinforcing within a concrete slab begins to rust. As the steel rusts it expands, displacing the concrete around it, causing it to become brittle and crack thus accelerating the process
