Life Science Genes & Molecular Machines
Types of Cells
Prokaryotic Cells
~only unicellular organisms
~does not have a nuclues for holding DNA
~most have only 1 chromosome
Eukaryotic Cells
~can be multicellular and unicellular
~they all go through some type of mitosis
~contain a nucleus to hold DNA
Heredity
Phenotype
~physical appearance of a organism
~based off of the organisms genotype
~it can change because of an organisms enviroment
Genotype
~is the genetic make up of organisms
~what determines the phenotype of an orgnism
~is an inherited trait from the offsprings parents
Cell Division
Mitosis
~creates 1 daughter cell
~multicellular organisms use it to help them grow and heal
~is a form of reproduction for eukaryotic unicellular organisms
Meiosis
~creates 4 daughter cells
~sex cells (sperm, and eggs)
~organisms that go through this split twice
Flowering Plants & Seeds
Reproduction
~plants work with pollinators to get pollen to grow and produce seeds , this is called cross-pollination
~they can also pollinate themselves using self-pollination by transfering pollen from different flowers on the same plant
DNA & RNA
~a flowers DNA that is passed to its offspring can vary in differences in color, shape, size, and even smell
~DNA changes into RNA and is then sent through the body
