Life Science & Molecular Matches
Heredity
Phenotype
An organisms physical apperence, or visible traits.
Hair color & eye color are two examples of someones phenotype.
Genotype
An organisms genetic makeup, or allele combinations.
The genotype is the letters in the punnet square.
Passing of traits from parents to offspring.
Cell Division
Meiosis
A type of cell division that results in four daughter cells each with half the number of chromosomes of the parent cell, as in production of gametes (sex cells) and plant spores. (Happens through sexual reproduction.
The chromosomes don't double in this type of reproduction.
Mitosis
Body cell division in which the nucleus divides containing the same number of chromosomes. (Happens in all Eukaryotic cells asexually)
Creates 2 identical daughter cells.
The prosses in reproduction and growth by which a cell divides to form daughter cells.
Types of Cells
Eukaryotic Cells
Cell with a nucleus (surrounded by its own membrane) and other internal organelles.
Plants and fungus are both things with eukaryotic cells.
Prokaryotic Cells
An organism whose cells do not have enclosed nuclues, such as bacteria.
Bacteria and archaea are both things that have prokaryotic cells.
Flowering Plants & Seeds
Flowers have two parts; the stamen (male part of flower) & pistil (female part of flower). These both help with the reproduction of flowers.
Seeds in flowers and plant can dispurse by wind, water, animals, or other ways that are by humans.
