Evaluate the use of wind system for generating electricity in a remote countryside (9 marks)
Wind systems:
Generating electricity:
Remote countryside
Exposed and enables more wind to pass through without disturbance, enabling the turbine to produce more energy more effectively. A remote countryside has enough land to hold plenty of wind turbine, giving optimal energy production.
Cost effective in the long term. One wind turbine produces enough electricity for one medium sized family.
Evaluate: Consider several options, ideas or arguments and come to conclusion about their importance/success/worth.
What I already know:
Effective at producing electricity. Takes up lots of land. Can store electricity so when there is very little wind it is still supplying electricity. Very expensive, however in the long term can save lots of money.
POSITIVES
Cost effective in the long term
Clean source of power
Renewable source
Can be used on existing farms and land
creates extra money for land owners by wind system companies owning your land therefore giving the owners some extra money.
NEGATIVES
Destroys habitat
Noise and visual pollution
Very little wind=Very little electricity
Only suitable for some locations
Threats to ecosystems
