An Inspector Calls
Order of Questioning
Mr Birling was first, this could be due to him being the igniting factor of the whole story or to represent that he is the man of the house and so he should be ominicient to what has gone on
Sheila was second, the effect of this was to create a boundary between her and her father as they had opposing views on responsibility and by investigating her story second it meant that the barrier was formed early
Gerald was after Sheila. By putting them next to each other it symbolized their relationship as they were together but the irony of finding out what Gerald had done counteracts the fact that they were next to each other
My Birling was fourth and this was unchronological to the time frame of the story as what she done happened after what eric had done, priestley did this to get the inspector to reveal what the higher classes think to responsibility and by doing this it revealed how Sybil thought of what she had done.
Eric was last. The build up and atmosphere grew as some felt guilty in what they did, annoyed at other people and feel overthrowned with power and so when Eric's truth comes out it makes the audience feel that what he done was the worst.
The effect of asking the characters in this order built tension between characters, allowed the inspector to reveal all the information in the way he wanted and for people to feel the most guilt to what they done as they could.
The order could represent the order that Priestley thought made the most difference to the story and the level of guilt

Well-made play
A well-made play is a popular dramatic genre from the 19th-century. In a well-made play the plot is intricate and complex and the action builds to a climax . This is often concerned with events that happened before the events of the play.
As the play was set in the past it had parts where the audience could use their own knowledge and understanding that is set out through the play, this involves the audience more and gets them more into the pay
The Three Unities
The three unities. Priestley wanted the form of his play to be uniform and he followed the three unities: unity of action: one main plot that moves on rapidly and smoothly through the play. unity of time: the action takes place over a short period in the real time of the play.
Morality Play
Personified abstract qualities within characters that presents a message about good conduct within society. "The moral of the story is: Social responsibility was very low"
Whodunit
Controversial play that is difficult to depict a bad person as the story is very complex and detective driven
By the end of each act there has been an improvement to the story of the play, where the characters had become more aware of what they had done. The end of acts represented the slow diminishing of the family as they were slowly dissected by the events that they had caused
The main twists in the play consist of when the inspector is found out to be a fake and then when another inspector is coming over as there was a girl who committed suicide
