Case 4
Treating a PT group
Suggest the PT reschedule his group
Pt.'s may end up having to go without needed therapy
Going without therapy would for a short period be safer than would be safer than receiving it from someone not trained to perform it
Suggest the PT ask another PT (if any) to do it
May take other PTs away from their other responsibilities
PTs are more trained than she would be for PT treatments, & are less likely to cause harm
Inform a higher source that she was asked to do this
PT may get in trouble
It would prevent her from getting in trouble, & possibly failing her FW course.
Providing PAMs to patients, untrained.
Inform the PT that she is not trained in this
Pt. might miss out on something they really need.
It's would be better to inform the PT than to potentially hurt patients. Patients could complain, & she along with the therapists would be in trouble.
Suggest interventions that she's been trained to do
PT can treat with PAMs if trained
If other treatments can cause similar outcomes, it'd be safer to perform ones she's trained to do.
Treating without supervision
Inform her school FW coordinator
May cause her to lose her FW site
It could result in her being placed at a more stable/organized site, & prevent her from jeopardizing her academic career
Inform a higher source for the company
PT may get in trouble
It would prevent her from getting in trouble, & possibly failing her FW course.
Being directed by the PT manager
Return to the site when the OT returns
Will need to make up fieldwork days, & uncertain when they will return
It is better to work under someone skilled in the area that you are practicing, to avoid any potential harm to patients
