Management
Full RoM
Normal strength and function
Heal in good position
Pt can return to original role in society ASAP
Types
Undisplaced (snapped but aligned) vs displaced (snapped and misaligned)
Pathological- OP, Paget's, tumour, cysts
Open- skin open, contamination. infection and nerve risk
Avulsion- Bone fails under tension.
Closed- skin intact
Stress #- Repeated abnormal stress to normal bone
Local bone tenderness, deformity, crepitus, function
Tx
Resus
2 survey :
1 survey: ABCDE
1) Open wound management-
Protect (splint, dress, tetanus)
Debridement, Stabilise
2) Reduction and stabilise
Setting in correct position, internal fixation
Closed- manipulation, open-surgery
3) Rehab: Communication with pt and relatives. Contribution from pt key.
