Type of Enzyme
Most detergents contain Lipase and Protease
Protease breaks down protein bonds.
Lipase breaks down oils and fats
these two enzyme work well together and they are great for getting rid of grass stains, paster sauce, grease and more of clothes
the type of enzyme should compliment the stain. for example lipase to break down oils and fats in paster sauce stain
in order to pick enzyme's for detergent the types of stain's it would come in contact with and the types of material those stains will be on
Conditions
the enzymes needs to be able to optimal for temperatures of 30-50 degrees
the temperature of the solvent could affect the enzyme activity rate
the replication of a washing machines might also affect the activity rate of an enzyme
the pH of the solution could effect the amount of stain removed.
Type of material
the most common material used for clothing are cotton blends
based on this i have chosen to go with a white cotton blend to make it easier to see the stain and to remove any errors in my qualitative measurements caused byr the colour washing or
Cotton blends can endure heat, soaking and drying and are easy to wash
cotton polyester blends are also easy to remove stains from and difficult to stain permanently
The material should be cut in 7 X 7.5 cm so there is ample space for the stain to spreed while leaving a enough material of a colour comparison.
the type of material could determine how it easy or hard it stains and how difficult it is to remove the stain with out damaging the cloth .
the concentration of enzymes could affect the amount of stain removed
The stain: Tumeric
turmeric stain is notoriously difficult to remove
hot water is necessary for the removal of the stain
turmeric is a flowering plant which the root is used for cooking
turmeric is fat soluble meaning it can dissolve in fat
the staining element in turmeric is Curcumin
Coffee, tea and wine
tanning is the molecule in drinks like tea, wine coffee that causes it to stain
Chocolate
milk chocolate in particular is quite oily and sugary
lots of stain removal methods require something acidic like Vinegar they may reflect on the enzyme of choice
