Local Court
The Local Court of New South Wales is the lowest court in the judicial hierarchy of the Australian state of New South Wales.
The local court has criminal and civil jurisdictions. It deals with: the majority of criminal and summary prosecutions in New South Wales.
It also conducts committal proceedings to determine whether or not indictable offences are to be committed to the district and supreme courts.
Civil matters up to $10,000

Supreme Court

The Supreme Court hears serious criminal cases such as murder, manslaughter and rape.
As well as civil matters over $750,000.

Federal Court
An Australian superior court of record which has jurisdiction to deal with most civil disputes governed by federal law.

The Federal Court deals with branches of Federal (Commonwealth) legislation, reviews decisions made by Federal Government officers.

District Court

The District Court hears serious criminal cases, eg. armed robbery, fraud.
Civil matters over $150,000 as well as appeals from magistrates
