Studying plants. Then focusing in on a certain type of flower, and then you become a expert on that flower.
Philosophical theory. Studying one specific philosophy and exploring that one question. e.i, what's the meaning of life, something about morals, etc.
Medical expertise. A doctor who is an expert on a very specific type of cancer, who knows far more about it than any other doctor.
