Narrative
Inception: The movie Inception is about the main character, Dom Cobb, and his job as a professional thief that steals information by infiltrating the subconscious mind. The trailer starts out with dom unconscious on the beach. This could be because could be where he is in a dream or were he has woken up from a dream, but there is no explanation to why he is there and the audience can only imagine. The closing of the trailer is fast-paced action. This acts as a summary of the film but doesn't give the audience all of the information, only little pieces meaning that the audience only has a small amount of information and can only imagine what would happen next, or watch the film. The protagonist's goal in this film is to complete a job given to him, and in return his criminal record is cleared and he can see his family again. Dom's job is full of obstacles. The main one being the authorities trying to arrest him because of his murder charge, and also what he is doing is illegal. This film trailer is full of unanswered questions, the main one being if Dom completes his job and is able to see his family again, or fails and gets arrested.
I.T.: The opening of this trailer shows the main character, Mike Regan boarding his private jet which shows his wealth. It then cuts to a scene at his business where he is showing his employees things on a tv, which is suddenly interrupted by the screen glitching. Mike then gets the i.t. man in ( Ed Porter ). This is the first time we see the two introduced, and because Ed fixes the screen Mike is impressed with his skill and asks him to fix his home wifi. This is where Ed starts turning bad and starts stalking mikes daughter. The ending of this film trailer is fast-paced action just like the trailer of Inception, except it is even faster with more action. This sequence is showing what happens at the climax of the film, but not showing enough that the audience knows exactly what happens. It shows that Ed is terrorising Mike's family but doesnt show what happens to them. Mike Regans main goal in this film is to just stop the I.T. guy from harassing and terrorising his family, but his goal is full of obstacles. Mainly the fact that Ed is not doing anything physically, but everything online, meaning mike has to find him and stop him. The main question and something that is left out of this film trailer is if mike is able to stop the I.T. guy and save his family. This is intentionally left out of the film trailer so if the audience wants to know what happens they have to buy and watch the film.
Transcendence: The opening of the film trailer of the film trascendence starts out with the main character (Dr Will Caster) introducing his new extremely advanced technology. The shots during the time of Dr Will Caster introducing his techology suggest that he is above everyone, and suggests that he doesnt care what the audience think of his invention and they cant do anything about it. The ending of this film trailer is full of fast paced cross cutting action showing what happens at the climax of the film. This part is fast paced to act as a quick summary of the main action of the film and to also not let the audience gather enough information to know what happens so they have to watch the film to see what happens. The protagonists goal in this film is to stop Dr Will Casters invention. During her quest to stop the invention she faces obstacles such as the main one which is trying to destroy it, but they dont know where it is. The main unanswered question in this trailer is whether they destroy the invention or not. This is purposely left out of the fim trailer as a way to try to get people to watch the film.
