The courier scam is an easy way for scammers to find money, the scammer will ring up an unexpecting person, and tell them that their bank account is being hacked, they will then tell them to ring up the number on the back of their credit/debt card. The victim will drop the phone, and ring up the number on the back of their card, but they don’t know that the scammer never dropped the phone so the call never finished, then the victim picks up the phone and dials the number only to be talking to the scammer, he tells the scammer his details, so then the scammer tells him that a courier will be on the way to collect his card.
The courier then delivers the card to the scammer who can now use the card because he has all the details. This scam can work on all members of the community with a phone. People can protect themselves by; knowing that the bank wouldn’t ring you, they would most likely send an authorised letter and the bank wouldn’t spend a courier to collect the card because it would be too expensive, they would get the person to bring the phone in.
