Cuba
Cuba used to be led by general Fulgencio who was supported by the Us, people hated him (Cuba was highly poor and under unemployment)
In 1953,Fidel castro started a revolution against Fulgencio, which was a success.
Castro started to nationalize wealthy of American businesses therefore, the Us launched the bay of pigs which was a fail.
Nikita Khrushchev and the us made an agreement to remove their missiles, the us form Turkey and Nikita from Cuba
Vietnam
in the 1870's he French colonized Vietnam for 70 years
In 1941 Japan took control of Vietnam, until they lost WW2
The French tried to reassert control with the help of the US.
In 1954, VIetminh won independence, Geneva agreement was signed to end war and split VIetnam in Half (North and South).
Once the French left, the US stayed in the South side having its leader NGO DINH DIEM as their puppet.
Vietcong Tactics: The vietcong wanted to make the US not want to fight
Tunnel complexes: It was more than 150 miles of tunnels, they were used to avoid US bombs, smuggle weapons from one place to another and hiding after a firefight.
Use of farmers/peasants: Peasants gave them supplies, hide soldiers & weapons, inform them about the US.
Hanging on to American belts: It involved fighting extremely close to the US so their bombers and artillery could no be used, since it would cause death to their own men.
Booby Traps: These were very cheap and were used to frighten the Us soldiers, but not as deathly.
US Tactics: This were expensive and mostly caused problems.
Strategic helmets: It was a tactic send to separate the Vietcong from farmers, moving them to safe zones so they could easily find the enemy but many Vietnamese refused to move from their homes .
Operation Rolling thunder: Massive bombing campaign to disrupt the supplies of weapons and troops to SV but it didn't and it instead killed many Innocent people die .
Search and destroy: The US would fly small # of troops to Vietcong location then destroy everything they had to fight, but it just made the US look bad because of pictures of them destroying villages and some of innocent.
Chemical Weapons: Tactic get rid of all the leaves and plants in the jungle which covered up were the Vietcong were fighting, a spray was dropped which harmed innocent people making the US look like monsters.
Korea
Korea had been taken over by Japan until end of WW2.
After WW2 the USSR and the US took out all of the Japan from Korea
Korea got split up South ( US capitalists), North (USSR communists).
The US asked the UN for help to fight war
The US influenced the UN since they were the biggest contributors of $$$
Therefore, the US decides to make Taiwan (capitalists) the representatives of China in the UN
The USSR got out of the UN to protest China's exclusion
Americans worry about 'Domino Theory'
In 19950, N Korea inavaded the South taking over almost all of Korea.
