How effective was the US @ stopping the spread of communism
Korea
Korean War
In 1950, North Korea (Communists) invades the South and take over almost all of Korea.
President Truman sends warships, advisers, and supplies to the South (Capitalists).
The US kicked china out and as a result the USSR also got out which left the UN communist free perfect for voting against communism
After UN vote, the North Koreans (Communists) are pushed back to the border of China.
The Chinese join the North Koreans and force the UN troops back past the 38th parallel.
Cuba
Cuban Revolution
Cuba is being led by General Batista a cruel dictator that was being used as a puppet by the US. Cuba was in extreme poverty and unemployment. Fidel Castro begins the 5 plus year revolution and gains support from the poor communities.
U.S Reaction
After Castro nationalizes wealthy Cuban and American businesses the U.S decides to take action against him. The U.S places an Embargo on Cuba. 1961 the CIA launches the Bay of Pigs invasion to try to overthrow Castro but failed. 1700 Cuban exiles were armed and promised air support from America but flopped. The USSR decides to help Cuba by giving them military assistance, including nuclear missiles.
Cuban Missile Crisis
1962 the USSR begins building nuclear missile launch sites in Cuba. The US obtains photos from spy planes. Kennedy announces the Cuban Blockade to prevent the USSR from delivering weapons to the island. At last, the USSR stops the shipment to Cuba and removes the missiles while Kennedy also removes the US missiles from Turkey.
Kennedy kept the removal of nuclear missiles in Turkey a secret to make it look like the U.S won the Cuban Missile Crisis
Vietnam
Background: The Vietnamese people were tired of being bossed around by the French and the Japanese so they decided to fight for their freedom. The U.S went to help the French try to win the battle against the Vietcong but the French decided to leave and the U.S had to make a tough decision which involved them to stay to fight against communism. In short, the U.S sends money and weapons to France. France leaves Vietnam.U.S $$$ and weapons support to Diem (U.S puppet) and then military involvement
