Korea
South
Was capitalist due to being helped by the UN. (USA)
Cause / Background
The USA passed a vote for the UN to fight against communism
It was ultimately a way for the UN to take blame for the war
Roots
Korea had been taken over by Japan until end of WWII, 1945.
North
Was communist due to being helped by China
Result
It was unsuccesful and Korea stayed split, there was no clear ending of communism meaning the communists stayed their ground
War
In 1950, North Korea to invade the South and take over almost all of Korea so it would be all pro communism
Cuba
Background
Poor cubans, unhappy with the Cuban government, supported guerillas led by Fidel Castro who wanted to turn Cuba communist
Us involvement
Bay Of Pigs
CIA trained Cuban Exiles (People unhappy with the new Cuba reform) and sent them to overthrow the new government, they were promised help but were left helpess and the US did not want to take the blame
Naval Blockade
USA sent large ships to block nukes from being transported into Cuba by the USSR, ultimately the US removed nukes from Turkey in a plea deal from the USSR
Outcome
Cuba remained a communist country and still is to this day, it is being lead by family and holds no elections
Vietnam
Background
Vietnam was divided into two sections when the Vietcong rebelled against the old Vietname leader
Outcome
The war had to be declared over with the Vietcong ultimately having the upper hand due to their ability in their battlefield, Vietnam ended up being a communist country deeming the US unsuccesful on stopping communism
Us involvement
The Us tried many things because they feared other Asian countires would turn communist with the Domino Theory
They sent 180,000 troops to Vietnam and later had over 500,000 troops stationed there
The US bombed Vietnam many times, 7 million tons of bombs were dropped that war and there are still landmines and unexploded devices up to this day
They used chmicals to try and destroy jungles to make vietnamese soliders more spottable
