- - - - Anselm tries to show that existence is contained in the idea of God, meaning that 'God' and 'exist' must coexist with each other because the subject 'God' contains the predicate 'exist'. Therefore, God is existence.
      - Anselm believed that even the fool (non believer reference to Psalm 14:1) has a concept of God in their mind in order to reject God, and that everyone can believe that God exists as the greatest possible being. So, you cannot say 'God doesn't exist' because you are assuming the existence of God in the first place.
      - 'Gods existence' is a priori and deductive since it can be known without using the sense experience, but just through our logic!
      - "Nothing greater can be conceived" means that God is 'greatest' in ever respect (such as omnipotent, omniscient) and must possess every great quality to be the ultimate 'great'. Some people like to see this as a goodworking definition of God.
  - - - :point_up: To be perfect, the island would have to be 'that island than which no greater can be conceived'.
        :point_up_2: This sort of island would have to exist necessarily, since a contingent island would not be as 'perfect'.
        :point_up_2: However, islands are contingent, so cannot exist necessarily.
        :point_up_2: Therefore the logic of Gaunilo's argument does not apply to God.

    - - Hume also claims that it is wrong to say that God existence necessarily because there is no such thing as necessary existence, as existence can only be contingent,
- - - - Descartes uses the analogy of a triangle. Just like 3 sides is part of the essence of a triangle, existence is part of the essence of God. :small_red_triangle:
      - Some might say that even if you have a concept of a perfect God, it does not necessarily mean that a perfect God exists. However, this is not what Descartes is trying to say. Descartes implies, that if you have a mountain, a valley must exist along with it, as this is part of the concept of a mountain. So, if a God is perfect, then God must exist as this is part of the concept.
