Korea
Korea had been taken over by Japan until the end of WWII, 1946
North Korea is run by communist Kim Il Sung, and South Korea is run by capitalist, Syngman Rhee
president Truman sends warships advisers, and supplies to the South of Korea
the US doesn't allow communist China into the UN so the USSR walked out of the UN to protest China's exclusion and after UN vote the North Koreans are pushed back to the border of China
Vietnam
the Vietcong had its ways to hide from the US
1.fighting extremely close to the US so their bombers and artillery couldn't be used
2.they set booby traps to frighten the US soldiers
3.they used tunnel complexes to avoid bombs
4.they dressed like farmers to blend in
in 1941, Japan took control of Vietnam and Viet Minh continued the fight for independence but Japan left after losing WW11
Viet Minh continues to fight the French so the French gets help from the US but in 1954, Viet Minh won independence and Vietnam was split in half
the US also had their tactics to defeat the Vietcong. all of these tactics were expensive and harmful
separate vietcong from the farmers to safe zones that had been cleared of the enemy
operation rolling thunder was massive a bombing campaign
they searched and destroyed everything the vietcong needed t continue fighting
they used chemical weapns
Cuba
in 1962 the USSR's Nikita Khrushchev begins building nuclear missile launch sites in Cuba
the US spy plane photos proving the existence of launch sites, President Kennedy announces the Cuban blockade to prevent the USSR from delivering weapons to the island
once Castro begins to nationalize wealthy Cuban and America business, the us decides to take action against him
the US places a trade Embargo on Cuba and in 1961, the CIA launches the Bay of Pigs invasion to overthrow Castro
Cuba is being led by General Fulgencio Batista who got overthrown by Fidel Castro
in 1953, Castro begins a 5 year revolution against Batista, in which he gained the support of the Cuban people
