Learning and self-organization
Brains and machines differ tremendously
A person simply cannot remove a cog from a machine and expect it to work effectively
So is it possible to create a "learning organization" that can be as flexible and resilient as a brain?

A brain however, although at a diminished capacity, would still be able to effectively operate.
An organization that can effectively communicate within it's self all while effectively making decisions would certainly appear similar to a brain
Decision Making Approach
Pioneered in the 1940's and 50's by Herbert Simon and colleagues
He argued that humans operate with a limited amount of understanding and available information
this lead to a "good enough" mentality which indirectly effected the way we created organizations.
This is why he argued we needed to base organizations around decision making.

Examined relationships "between uncertainty"
This allowed social scientists to better understand how human think and make decisions, leading to more effective policy
Heirarchy
Setting goals and communication channels within organizations allow for higher control of outputs

The relationship between society and management is partly responsible for japan's ascension into an industrial power after WWII
What is culture?
It can be described as a societies shared collective system of knowledge, ideology, values, ideologies, laws, and day to day ritual
Robert Presthus suggested that we today live in an organizational society where large organization call the shots.
He states this is the case in much of the developed world
However, every nation's culture has influenced the way organizations are built within their boarders
This means companies in japan differ drastically from companies in the united states, see example on pg.119
Corporate subcultures begin to exist within organizations
This can be good and bad depending on the circumstance
