I believe a big part of messages in and messages out are signals that are not spoken; body language and modeling are a big part of how students learn and how educators can assess students through engagement. In order to increase awareness of these signals I think it is important for educators to know that they are role models for their students every day, if they show up tired and not in a good mood to teach, their students will see this and act in the same ways. Whereas, if a teacher shows up, ready and excited to teach, their students will build from the teacher’s energy and be more willing to be involved as well. I also think educators need to know how to read student body language in terms of engagement, if you are teaching and not a single student looks engaged or showing signs of active listening, perhaps the lesson is not being taught in the best way to encourage student engagement and learning.
