ASA (Advertising Standards Authority)
Consumers can complain to the ASA if they think that a particular advert breaks the advertising codes
The advertising codes provide media producers who work in advertising with a number of rules they must follow. These include:
Ensuring that all pricing is communicating clearly to consumers
Making sure that the benefits of producers are not falsely exaggerated in adverts
The ASA works across different media platforms in order to regulate all different kinds of advertising. This ranges from magazines advertising to online advertising, and even television channels.
BBFC (British board of films classification)
The BBFC is a body designed to protect young people from viewing media products that unsuitable for them
they are responsible for providing films with a suitable age rating depending on the amount of violence, bad language, sexual content, adult themes, etc., present in the film.
PEGI (Pan European Game Information)
PEGI is a European-wide regular designed to protect young people against harmful content in video games
PEGI uses age ratings, such as the BBFC,to advises parents wether there games are suitable for their children to play
PCC (Press Complaints commission)
The PCC handles complains about the content in a newspapers and magazines
they have two rules
All photographs need to be accurate and must not mislead the public
Respecting the privacy and home life of individuals and not harassing them
OFCOM (Office of communications)
Ofcom is the regulator of communications in the uk.They are responsible for regulating the television and radio sectors of the media industry.
