Parts and Sections
My initial ideas- I would like to take inspiration from the modernist moment in photography which occurred around 1910-1950. This was the beginning of photographers exploring rather than obscuring with in this project. I would like to explore abstract ideas of different parts and section and capture them with in my work. I would like to make people wonder what exactly the image means, and I feel I could achieve that using this brief.
Idea A- Jean Faucheur- I feel the way Jean Faucheur edits his portrait images very interesting and abstract. I would potentially like to edit my images influenced by Faucheur's techniques. I may also take inspiration from the work of David Hockney who takes parts from images when editing them in his series of 'joiners'. It may also be a possibility that I take portrait images influenced by Faucher however I want to explore more abstract items.
Idea B- John Stezaker- I feel this artist is very similar to Jean Faucher, in the way he edits his images in to different parts and sections. I find the way Stezaker layers his images very appealing when looking at parts and sections. I would like to take inspiration from the way this artist edits his images.
Idea C- I would like to take inspiration from this artist in the way he captures natural forms such as trees etc. I find that I would be able to create some effective abstract images by using natural images.
Where I could potentially shoot in response to this artist- a Forrest area like Hamsterley Forrest, Bishop Park, Darlington Parks, Shildon Park, possibly parks in Edinburgh such as Leith Links or the Botanic gardens and smaller gardens.
Idea D- I would like to take images for my project with influence from 'The Boyle family' as they produce very abstract yet effective images out of elements so simple.
Where I could potentially shoot in response to this artist- Roads, markings on roads, pavements cracks and textures on the ground in towns such as, Shildon, Darlington and Bishop Auckland. Maybe photograph cities such as Durham or Edinburgh to capture a range of images of similar textures
With both Jean Faucheur and John Stezaker I feel my final images will most likely be edited in the style of them but the images them self will most likely be influenced from Andy Small and the Boyle Family who captures more abstract textures. However there is a possibility I may explore portrait and include parts and sections from that element.
Technical elements-
Lighting- I feel my lighting will vary through out my project seen as tho I plan on capturing natural elements such as trees. As well as roads and walls. I believe in my editing process I will probably have to edit my images to make them appear lighter.
Composition- I quite like the composition of Andy Small's work I feel I may take most inspiration of this artist in the way I composition my work.
-
Formal elements (colour,line texture,pattern)-
- in inspiration to the Boyle family I would like to capture lines in the road/paths and the texture around it. The colour will most likely be a dark tones however I plan on amplifying the colour which is there.
- in inspiration to Andy Small I plan on capturing well textured elements in nature which will have natural lines with in eg. photographing tree bark will include a natural texture with the natural lines which makes up the bark. I plan on editing my images in influence to Small by exaggerating the natural colours.
Idea E- Paul Mitchell- Paul Mitchell takes images of parts of textures in nature. Similar to Small, i would take images of a natural environment.-I would probably incorporate Small and this artists work together.
Idea F- I would like to edit my images in a way of different parts and sections. David Hockney has given me to some extent inspiration for my project in the way he works in his joiners. However Hockney seems to have pointillism approach towards his work. I don't think I would want to use that element within my project because i feel that I couldn't distinguish the parts and section element as well.
Idea G- Justin green takes urban abstract images which i find quite similar to the Boyle family. Again his ideas may influence my project.
Idea H- Mark Anderson - I would like to take inspiration from this photographer as he captures forms of nature similar to Andy Smalls work which I believe will work well with in my project as parts and sections of elements are brought out.
