DIFFERENTIATED STRATEGIES
LIONS
The
"Lions"
group consists of
5 students
who got the whole riddle right, and they used the right math analogy to deduce the results
the 5 lions will be heterogeneously grouped with
1) they will create a presentation based on the new lesson to identify the usage of rational numbers
3) they will peer assess in class a math problem that they will take back home
5) they will create a poster per group to describe the rational numbers and their usage with respect to normal math operations
TIGERS
The
"Tigers"
group consists of
12 students
who used the functions in a right way, but their analogy was wrong hence the end result was wrong
5 of the tigers who got the math operations right but had wrong methodology. This group of ten will be divided into 2 groups of 5
The 7 remaining
Tigers
will be grouped homogeneously. They got the math operation right but neither got the final result nor the methodology right.
1) they will pass normal activities in class homogeneously and they will peer assess within the activity
2) create a chart of all the math operations they got right and explain it to the other groups
3) create a scenario where they can assume the known answer and take logical steps to conclude the answer, this will be exhibited back home and will be graded
4) discuss with me the methodology of rational numbers operations and how to use them
2) they will conduct normal class activities in the same group to help each other grasp the concept of rational numbers
4) create a math problem on their own and try to solve it together, and this problem will be passed on randomly to other groups and vice versa
6) (in the previous groups) they will make an extra credit activity to plan for an upcoming lesson they never experienced and they will explain it to the rest of the class in a short presentation before the class begins
JAGUARS
The
"Jaguars"
group consists of
5 students
who didn’t know how to use the functions nor got any results in the riddle
The
Jaguars
will be grouped homogeneously to exhibit the same activities that will positively reinforce them for the rest of the unit
1) they will have 5 min pre-discussion before every activity with me in order to grasp the operations concept
2) they will have a post class reinforcement class, they will be asked short questions that will guide them to the answer, them being led to the objective is better to entice their sense of exploration and keep them engaged
3) they will give a presentation of the operations on the previous number set to the class in 10 min, which is a refresher for the whole class and needed for the upcoming lesson
4) they will have an individual one on one meeting with me , to exercice on each student's part that they don't understand, to micromanage every deficiency
5)
they will have an explanation video that is accessible to everyone also in order to further understand the lesson
I will pass by them within activities to explain steps by asking question that open a way to guide them to the right answer without giving them the final answer
students with disabilities will have math problems that are half answered with complete point to fill
6)

All groups together will conduct normal class activities in the same group to help each other grasp the concept of rational numbers and they will peer-asses
