What are my Science Standards?
Grade Level Expectations: High School
Standard 1: Physical Science
What concepts and skills will I master?
-Newton's laws of motion and gravitation
-Describe relationships among forces acting on and between objects
-identify masses, and changes in motion
Evidenced Outcome: What will I be able to do?
Gather, analyze, interpret data and create graphs of position, velocity and acceleration.(DOK 1-3)
Develop, communicate and justify an experiment of the forces acting on an object and the resultant acceleration produced by a net force (DOK 1-3)
Develop, communicate and justify an experimental scientific prediction regarding the effects of the action-reaction force pairs on the motion of two interacting objects (DOK 1-3)
Understand the effect of changing masses and distance when applying Newton's law of universal gravitation on two bodies (DOK 1-2)
Identify the limitations of Newton's laws
Matter has structure that determines physical and chemical properties
Evidence Outcome: What will I be able to do?
Develop, communicate, and justify an evidence-based scientific explanation supporting the current model of an atom (DOK 1-3)
Gather, analyze and interpret data of elements such as density, melting point, boiling point, and conductivity (DOK 1-2
Use physical and chemical properties to develop predictions and claims about elements' positions on the periodic table (DOK 1-2)
Develop a model that indentifies atoms, molecules, elements, compounds, and pure substances and mixtures (DOK 2-3)
Matter changes form by chemical or nuclear reactions, but must abide to the laws of conservation of mass and energy
Evidence Outcome: What will I be able to do?
Recognize, analyze, interpret, and balance chemical equations (synthesis, decomposition, combustion, and replacement) or nuclear equations (fusion and fission) (DOK 1-2)
Predict reactants and products of chemical and nuclear reactions (DOK 1-2)
Predict and calculate the amount of products produced in a chemical reaction based on the amount of reactants (DOK 1-2)
Examine, evaluate, question, and ethically use information from sources and media to understand the conservation of mass and energy (DOK 1-2)
Standard 3: Earth Systems Science
What concepts will I master?
1.The history of the universe, solar system and Earth can be inferred from evidence left from past events
3.The theory of plate tectonics explains geological, physical, and geographical features of Earth
2.Earth interacts with many forces including, gravity, solar phenomena, electromagnetic radiation. Earth also impacts events that influence the geosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere
Standard 2: Life Science
What concepts and skills will I master?
-Matter can be cycled in an ecosystem
-energy is transformed and will exit an ecosystem
Size and livability of populations depend on their interactions with one another as well as the abiotic factors in an ecosystem
3.Cellular metabolic activities are carried out by biomolecules produced by organisms
