Permission slip for student to meet with the counselor is sent home
Parent states that individual counseling is not to occur
Counselor may meet with class as whole group to discuss emotions, problem solving, and read books at grade level concerning topics as requested by teacher
Parent approves of individual student counseling
Student is pulled on a weekly basis for counseling
IEP (Individual Educational Plan)
May be school or parent suggested
Team of Parent + Teacher + Principal meet
Individualized plan is put in place, may include being pulled from class on a weekly or bi-weekly basis for specialized instruction
With supports, student makes progress. IEP team continues to meet every 4-6 weeks. IEP may continue and be updated for years, if needed.
With supports, student does not make progress
May be moved to specialized education classroom on a permanent basis (this usually occurs when extreme behavior issues are present as well.)
