Hunger and Famine
Due to overpopulation, inadequate natural resources, and desertification, hunger and famine spread in a country.
From the years 1973-1984, the continent of Africa has experienced major famines.
To resolve this issue, the country's government must balance population growth with production of natural resources.
Spread of Nuclear Weapons
The spread of the manufacture of nuclear weapons due to social and political problems.
The United States first used the nuclear weapon in 1945 to end WWII.
A treaty signed by many nations is a way to combat this issue.
Human Rights Violation
The social, political, and economic freedoms that each individual has the right to have. It is when those freedoms are restricted by a larger force when it is considered a violation.
An example of Human Rights Violation is the Nazis during WW2 when they committed the Holocaust.
Organizations like Amnesty International are putting pressure on nations for them to release their political prisoners.
Aids
This disease weakens the immune system; was discovered in the 1970s.
Big problem in Africa but is present globally.
Research to find a cure and educational programs can stop the epidemic.
Desertification
Desertification means the change of fertile or farmable land into desert land.
Desertification is a big issue in the Sahara Desserts in Africa.
It can be reversed by planting trees, plants, or grass.
Overpopulation
Overabundance of people in an area with not enough resources.
China, India, Nigeria and some other countries are affected by this.
Birth control programs and producing more yields in farms can be a solution.
International Debt
When a nation borrows a large amount of money to pay for extreme disasters or other issues. When that amount of money is to much for the country to repay, that country goes into debt.
Africa, Latin America, and Eastern Europe all experience growing International Debt.
The most effective solution would be for that country to return to political stability and also to receive a little debt forgiveness from the other country.
Terrorism
Terrorism is the use of violence to achieve a political goal.
The Islamic Jihad and the P.L.O. are both two terrorist groups that carry out very violent terrorist acts.
Sharing information through interpol and increasing security in public areas are ways to combat terrorism.
Deforestation
Cutting of trees to clear land for housing or industrial purposes.
It is a problem in the Amazon in Brazil, Africa and Southeast Asia.
A solution is to lower debt in Brazil in exchange for an agreement to stop deforestation.
Global Warming
Warming of the earth caused by an excess of carbon dioxide.
Effects the entire earth but is visible in coral reefs and the northern hemisphere.
A solution would have to require international support to regulate deforestation and factories.
