They help them chew and hold space in the mouth for permanent teeth to grow underneath the gums. If a child loses a baby tooth too early the permanent tooth could drift into an empty spot and make it difficult for other permanent teeth to grow.

Baby teeth will eventually be replaced with permanent teeth. The baby teeth and still important and should be well taken care of and fixed if there are any problems.

To make dental care fun you can try letting the child chose their tooth brush, their tooth paste flavor, read books or watch videos that talk about oral health, and plan fun activities following dental appointments so the child isn't scared of the dentist.
