Learning Memory Concept Map
Memory Processes (Stages of memory)
Sensory Memory (SM) :unlock: (<1 second)
Holds information from the environment; Briefest Form; visual representation of a scene.
Short-Term Memory (STM) :unlock: (<1 minute) Working Memory - things you are thinking about; transferred from sensory; requires elaborative processing and attention to hold/bind.
Long-Term Memory (LTM) :lock: (Life-time) Information lasts whole life if no injury/impairment. Many factors; unlimited storage potential.

Memory Processes: Encoding, Storage, & Retrieval (Recall)
*Definition of Memory: The persistence of learning over time through the storage and retrieval of information.*
Working Memory (WM) :!?: Processes current focus of attention; encodes, stores & retrieves from STM; Used then tossed (forgotten).

Lobes and Key Brain Components
Frontal Lobe: Prefrontal Cortex (incoming data "sight"), speech
-
Temporal Lobe: (Auditory Cortex: "Hearing"), language [Retrieval]
-
Amygdala: (Limbic System), Controls the brain's perception and processing of emotion; Coping with Stressors (Fight, Flight, or Freeze) [Retrieval]
Hippocampus: Gateway for all information to pass through before it can be memorized; memory & spatial learning [Retrieval]
