The Spanish war of Succesion
Carlos II died leaving no heir so the French Bourbouns and the Austrian Habsburgs claimed the Spanish throne.
Lasted from 1701 until 1714.
Started as a civil war but became an international war.
Ended with the signing of the Treaty of Utrech.The Bourboun dinasty replaced the Habsburg.
Felipe V became the king of Spain.
Spain lost territories in the Netherlands and Italy(given to Austria) and Gibraltar and Menorca(given to the British)

Belief in human reason over religion or authority.
People began to believe tha they could improve their lives through education or involvements in politics.
Brought significant cultural changes to some countries in Europe.
