Spain involved in many wars over territory and religion such as Thirty Years' War.
Spain lost some of its territories in Europe,including Portugal.
The kings spent large amounts of money paying the soldiers and the officials.
Pirates attacked Spanish ships on their way back to Spain from America.
SOCIAL PROBLEMS
The population decreased.
Many people died in wars.
Famine caused by poor harvests and plagues.
Many people emigrated to America.
Moriscos were expelled.
