My personal timeline
Community project (2017)
In this experience me and two other close friends of mine worked with the make a wish foundation to make the wish of a then 4-year-old girl names Lorena Paula Pedro's dream come true. We had to attend an 8 hour training session to learn important social and interpersonal skills to know how to deal with the jealous siblings, the worried parents and also, find out what Lorena's true wish was. We learned about how 75% of the dreams are about materials like an Ipad or a motorcycle and we also received various documents we had to fill out. After finding out what Lorena's dream was we had to raise money to make it come true. She wanted an electric motorcycle from barbie or Frozen and we had to organize a special "wish day" where we would give her the bike in a special manner. We decided to have a barbie-princess themed picnic with her and all her family on the iberapuera park. Wae bought her a volleyball with princess Elsa on it and a princess hool-hoop and barbie inspired cups and plates.
What I learned was that although you can plan something perfectly, there's always going to be some factor or event you might not have seen coming and to avoid this, you should always have backup plans or at least get into the planning staged knowing that. Although for the first hours the wish day was going perfectly; it started to rain and one of the members of my team accidentally stepped on a red ants nest and had a quite concerning allergic reaction, Lorena's uncle slipped and kicked a thorn which got into his foot and we had to call an ambulance which refused to treat him because supposedly the ambulance as only working for people that were attending an art exhibit at the park. We were very grateful that my mom was there to help with everything, she called the ambulance and found a way to make him help us and additionally helped us look for shelter from the rain.
Learning strategies to help deal with peoples emotions and learning all the systematization of the wish process got me engaged in the area of psychology and deeply interested in how to manage resources and people. Doing the fundraiser was also a challenge since we couldn't have a bake sale in school so we organized an online selling of cupcakes instead, therefore; finding a loophole. I believe this project made me learn a lot of entrepreneurial skills.
If i could have done something differently however, I would've tried to predict some of the things that went wrong, although we did have a premeditated solution to the major issue that was the rain.
