Pre-Assessment for 2nd Grade Math
All students will take
this
assessment
I will go over each of my students' pre-assessments and analyze their scores. I will look for any patterns in performance for both the individual students and for the class as a whole.
12 students who have some knowledge about the topic as shown in their score, but need to develop higher order thinking skills
Work on the 'Lesson 2 - Practiced' worksheets in whichever areas we are focusing on throughout the unit
Formative assessment: each student has their own dry-erase board; I will project a question on the board, they write their answer on the dry-erase board, and then they hold it up for me to see. I will go through 5-10 questions to see if the class is understanding the material
If students are understanding the lesson, then they will move on to 'Lesson 3 - Skilled' worksheets in whichever areas we are focusing on throughout the unit
If students are not quite understanding the lesson, then they will spend more time on the 'Lesson 2 - Practiced' worksheets in whichever areas we are focusing on throughout the unit
5 students who appear to have limited knowledge about the topic
Watch the video tutorials and then work on the 'Lesson 1 - Beginner' worksheets in whichever areas we are focusing on throughout the unit
I will work with the 2 students who have little to no comprehension of the topic and need to be tested further for special needs by reading and explaining each question to them to help them understand what they are being asked to do.
The 3 students who are struggling with language and are at different reading levels will be allowed to use a dictionary to help understand all of the words.
Formative assessment: traffic cards; Each student has an index card with a large, green circle on one side and a large, red circle on the other side. If they are following along and understanding the lesson, the green side of their card is upright and visible. When they do not understand something and need clarification, they flip the card to the red side.
If students are understanding the lesson, then they will move on to 'Lesson 2 - Practiced' worksheets in whichever areas we are focusing on throughout the unit
If students are not quite understanding the lesson, then they will spend more time on the 'Lesson 1 - Beginner' worksheets in whichever areas we are focusing on throughout the unit
5 students answered most, including the most difficult, of the pre-assessment questions correctly
Work on the 'Lesson 3 - Skilled' worksheets in whichever areas we are focusing on throughout the unit
Formative assessment: fist to five to ensure these students are following along
If students are understanding the lesson, then they will move on to 'Lesson 4 - Expert' worksheets in whichever areas we are focusing on throughout the unit
If students are not quite understanding the lesson, then they will spend more time on the 'Lesson 3 - Skilled' worksheets in whichever areas we are focusing on throughout the unit
