He is the oldest in the gang. He is 6 feet tall. He is the wisecracker of the group. He is very proud of his sideburns. We do not gear about him that much in the story. He can not stop making smart comments to save his life.

Randy is a tall guy with a semi beatles haircut. He is one of the nicer socs. In the begining of the book Ponyboy and the rest of the kids thought he was a mean guy. After Ponyboy meets him in person he realizes that he is a nice guy. Randy also does not beleive in fighting in the rumble.

He is the main guy in the story. He has long black almost red hair, he is a greaser who is 14 years old and has a good build. At the beginning of the story he kind of just went with the flow of being a greaser, but at the end of the story, he realizes that there is no point in fighting and getting trouble. He is Sodapop and darrys brother.

To balance out the perspective of the Socs versus the Greasers, Hinton introduced a strong female Soc, Cherry Valance. Cherry is caught up in the game, but at least realizes it is a game. ... Sherri Valance, or Cherry as everyone calls her because of her red hair, is a strikingly beautiful and popular cheerleader.
She is also bobs girlfriend.

Like his brother Darrel, he's fashion-plate handsome, and since he's a Curtis, he's smart, athletic, and hardworking to boot. In contrast to Ponyboy's conflicted emotions regarding Darry, Pony's feelings for Soda are entirely positive. He idolizes and loves his older brother and sees how smart he is. He really loves Ponyboy and cares him.

Tim Shepard - The leader of another band of greasers and a friend of Dally. Tim and Dally respect each other, despite occasional conflicts. Ponyboy thinks of Tim as an alley cat, hungry and restless. Tim does not appear in the novel until the night of the rumble, when his gang sides with Ponyboy's.

Darry is a large man, of 6' 2" and he is broad shouldered. His hair is said to be like his father's- dark brown that sticks out in the front of his head with a cowlick in the back. His eyes "are like two pieces of pale blue-green ice." He is said to look exactly like his father, but with different eyes. He loves Ponyboy even if he is tough on him.

Robert "Bob" Sheldon was Cherry Valance's boyfriend and a minor antagonist in The Outsiders. One night, when Ponyboy and Johnny are in the park, unwanted and alone, Bob and some other Socs come and pick a fight. Ponyboy smarts off to them, and they try to drown him. Bob ends up getting stabbed by Johnny Cade.

Dallas Winston is said to have an elfish face with high cheekbones, a pointed chin, small, sharp animal teeth, and ears like a lynx. Dally didn't like haircuts nor hair oil, so his almost white-blonde hair fell over his forehead in wisps. He ends up indirectly killing himself over not having a very good life. Johnny dieing was the last straw.

He is a small timid kid. He has jet black long hair. He looks like a puppy that has been kicked too many times. He is good friends with Ponyboy. He really likes Ponyboy and he even killed bob to save him. We do not to get see him develop because he is in the hospital. We do see him say that fighting is useless. He has matured.
