- - - - Individualistic views have sharp differences and boundaries between people, or to be independent
      - Collectivist views: people are not separate, but are at best a distinct part of a group and at worse just cogs in a machine, or are interdependent
      - Alternate views of independent and interdependent:
        
        Orientation to self or group: either focuses on self sustaining or contributing your skills to a group
        
        Decision making: either focuses on the self making their own decisions or having elders make the decisions
        
        Knowledge Transmission: the more collectivist a culture is, the more likely it may seem disrespectful of children to express opinions or ask questions
        
        Individual choice and personal responsibility: focuses on free will or if outside sources grant you choices or not.
        
        Concept of Progress:individualistic cultures see progress as what the individual can do compared to the previous generation, while collectivists see it as a cycle of the same thing over and over again
        
        Competitiveness: individualist cultures emphasize this more while collective cultures emphasize cooperation above all else
        
        Shame and guilt:individualistic cultures will often blame themself for when things go wrong, while collectivist groups feel shame or guilt if they disgrace the group
        
        Help Seeking: Collectivist cultures allow for much more help seeking then individualists, while individualists stress taking care of themselves first before others
        
        Expression of Identity: Individualistic cultures will promote self expression to the max, making yourself stand out. While collectivist cultures emphasis dressing for the part
        
        Adulthood expectations: Individualistic cultures will emphasize that adults will be self sufficient while collectivist cultures will emphasize becoming part of the community a lot more
