All 4 jobs: Coolies, Samsui Women, Dhobis and Rickshaw Pullers, required no education and little to no talent. Thus, immigrants who came to Singapore to work found these jobs attractive for they sustained them with shelter and food, despite it being less than pleasant. However, some required less work, such as the dhobis, but they needed to have the skill of washing and ironing clothes. Samsui Women were for women who had no education, which was common back in the day while the coolies had many different types of jobs, ranging from construction work to pulling rickshaws while Rickshaw Pullers had to work under the hot sun and had to pull around 100kg worth of weight.
