Innovative differentiated strategies
Above average students
These students will be grouped
homogeneously
in order to work on the following project
In addition to the class work, these students will be asked to write a science report.
Students will conduct research about local Taiwanese animals
Students will create a poster that will be presented to the class at the end of the unit
Science report should include 80% of the vocabulary learned, identify the parts of speech and use unit grammar in their report.
Drafts would be required before turning in the final writing project in order to
track and assess
the student's progress.
Average students
Because the number of students that are considered average is high, these group will be separated into three groups of four.
There are certain time during the unit when I would like to group these students
homogeneously
The students will follow the curriculum with some added challenges along the way
Students will be required to just make a poster comparing and contrasting two animals we studied within the unit.
Students will not be required to present their poster, but they will be required to fill out the rest of our KWL chart using the some of the vocabulary and grammar of the unit.
Student progress will be
tracked
through the use of quizzes and daily exit tickets
There are certain time during the unit when I would like to group these students
heterogeneously
, the students would work heterogeneously when the class is working on re-enforcing activities
The class would occasionally work with mixed groups mostly when reviewing material.
When playing educational games, to balance the class
Below average students
Students struggling with English
Grouped heterogeneously during review and game activities
When working on new material in the class, this group work homogeneously and will be given further clearer instructions by me when they are in their group.
Different goals and objectives (as discussed with my co-teacher)
Visual aids will be used more often during class to accommodate these students
Tiered activities whenever possible (easier quizzes with simpler vocabulary, easier word bank for them to remember) These tiered activities can also be used to
measure the progress
of students
Special needs
Extra use of technology tools
Grouped heterogeneously during review and game activities
More detailed feedback from teachers regarding their work
Individual copies of KWL chart made in class so that they can take home and review when needed.
Links to videos regarding the class material will be provided.
Entry and exit tickets
will be used to
measure progress
of these students.
