Positive Behavior, Interventions and Supports
The Bullies
Bill the Cop and the busy bees
Tier 1:
Interventions:Stop Walk and Talk Technique and Non-verbal cues. I would talk to the student one on one, and try to let him know how I am viewing things. Remind the student that the school has a zero policy when it comes to bullying.
Tracking System: Intervention General Tracking Form
Tier 2:
Interventions: Alternatives to Suspensions.
Tracking Systems: Behavior Specialist Referral form and fill our a behavior contract. I think bringing in a student contract that a student/parent could sign will be a good way to bring all the issues to the table. Having on paper, so that the student can see what is require of him, might make the student understand the problems at hand.
Tier 3:
Intervention: Alternatives to Suspensions, Behavior meeting.
Tracking Systems: Behavior Contract and Counselor Referral Form. Update the Behavior contract form. At this point I would also want the student to reach out for additional help from our school counselor. There might be an underlying issue of why the student is behaving the way that they are.
The Talkative
The Case of Know it all Nancy
Tier 2:
Intervention: I would ask for classroom management support. Maybe having additional support will help and we can bounce ideas on how to fix the situation. I would also Stop, Walk and Talk. Talking to the student and letting her know why she can't be shouting out answers might be enough to make it stop. I would also try to use cues to try to inform Nancy she is speaking out.
Tracking System: Behavior contract.
Tier 3:
Intervention: Peer Tutoring. Having the students peer tutor might help Nancy keep on task and at the same time she will be helping her classmates. Keep using cues with the student.
Tracking System: Daily Behavior Form. I would want the student to fill out a daily routine and have a count to see how many times she speaks out during class time.
