The objects on the left are grossly contradicted to the descriptions on the right, and Lewis' subtle, but intentional organization creates an atmosphere that feels like a museum exhibition that adds to the irony and corruption of the objectification of black women throughout the ages

  - - - "Voyage of Sable Venus" poem on page 57 -- at first, we thought that the phrases on the left side column were "objectifying" black women, while the descriptions on the right-side column were "humanizing" them, until in a subsequent page the word "humans" suddenly mixed and matched into the left-side "objectifying" column -- questions this process of categorization.
      - "Voyage of Sable Venus" -- enjambment fragments words and phrases that makes us see words independently and question the meaning of the phrase when seen in this alternate context
      - In "Zong!," fragmenting poems between pages and then writing imagined names at the bottom of each page of those who died in the massacre individualizes each voice and avoids exclusion
    - - Metonymy in Mullen's "Trimmings" -- drawing a congruity between two things not because they are like one another (metaphor) but because they are associated with one another -- for example, "red dress" can refer to women, consent, sexual desire -- metonymy creates ambiguity and removes clear distinctions, allowing for different kinds of comparisons
      - Stein's "Melanctha," story from "Three Lives," was actually a rewritten version of the original story QED about two women and their interactions. Stein rewrote the original story which talked about Queer and LGBT relationships into one that talked about racial interactions. Such comparisons draws interactions and stories from one another that make it harder to distinguish issues between gender, race, and sexuality
      - Collapse between human and animal pg. 11 "Humanimal" where it says "My mother was crouching there, waiting for me in her dark coat." This phrase could apply to both humans or wolves, removing this distinction
    - - instead of generalizing "Native Americans" Long Soldier insists on particularity of each tribe by referring to each tribe (e.g. Dakota, Sioux) instead of calling them altogether "Native Americans"

        In poem "part 2" on page 57 of Lewis' "Voyage of Sable Venus," separating the objectification of black women in art from their humanized description through the organization of the columns adds to this "humanizing" effect of the forgotten identities of black women in art
        
        In Layli Long Solider's poem "38," by naming the black PEOPLE or Dakota NATION, qualifies these groups of people instead of simply calling them "black" or "Dakota" -- qualifies and shows respective for the Native Americans as PEOPLE, treating them as humans and respecting them as such . For example, in every day conversation, saying Native American PEOPLE is better than simply saying Native Americans --> insists on humanity, not allowing reduction
