PN and Endocrine System by: Jorge Velez
cranial nevers
l- Olfactory
sense of smell
V- Trigeminal
motor- chewing; sensory- skin of face
lV- Trochlear
supieror oblique muscle of eye
VI- Abducens
lateral rectus eye muscle abduct the eye
lll- Oculomotor
mostly motor functions- most of the muscles of eye, eyelid, and pupillary constriction
VII- Facial
motor of muscles of facial expression; sensor: taste
ll- Optic
arises from retina of the eye and functions in vision
VIII- Vestibulococholear
sensory- hearing and equilibrium (balance)
IX- Glosopharyngeal
motor- secretion of saliva; sensory- tase, regulation of blood
XII- Hypoglossal
motor- movement of tongue durning speech and swallowing; sensory proprioception
X- Vagus
motor- smooth muscle contraction and relaxation, secretion of digestive fluids; heart, lungs- parasympathetic innervastion; sensory from visceral organs it supplies and proprioception
XI- Accessory
motor- swallowing and movement of head; sensory- proprioception
Autonomic Nervous system
Sympathetic Division
Originated in the thoracolumbar segments of the spinal cord
Synapses in ganglia near spinal cord
short pre-ganglionic and long post ganglionic
Neurotransmitters: Epinephrine and Norepinephrine
Effectors organs: eyes, lungs, heart, etc
Remember “E” exercise, excitement, emergency and embarrassment
Parasymphatic Division
originated in brainstem and sacral
synapses in ganglia near effector organ
Long pre-ganglionic and short post ganglionic neurons
Neurotransmitters: Acetylcholine
effector organs: salivary glands, digestive and reproductive glands
Remember “D”- digestion, defecation, and diversis
endocrine glands
pituitary gland
controls all other endocrine glands: influences growth, metabolism and regeneration
hypothalmus
Regulates hunger, thirst, sleep and wakefulness plushest of your involuntary mechanisms including body temperature
pineal glands
secrets melatonin regulating sleep cycles, alterness, and temperature
parathyroid gland
secrestes the hormones necassaryfor calcium absorption
Thyroid gland
regulates your energy and your metabolism
Adernal gland
secrets hundreds of compound including cortisone and adrenaline which helps you react to emergencies, Regulates your metabolism processes in the cell, water balance, blood pressure, etc
Thymus gland
helps build resistance to disease
pancreas
aids in the digestion of protein, fats, and carbohydrates.Produces insulin which controls blood sugar levels
ovaries
influences how your blood circulates and determines your mental vigor and your sex drive
testes
are influences secondary sex characteristics such as beard growth in males
